Top 25: Conley leads Buckeyes past Wolverines
Mike Conley Jr. scored a career-high 23 points and Greg Oden created havoc at the defensive end to lead No. 3 Ohio State past Michigan 76-63 Tuesday night in Columbus, Ohio.
Conley was a constant for the Buckeyes (21-3, 9-1 Big Ten) as Oden battled foul trouble and sat out 8 1/2 minutes of the second half.
The freshman point guard was 9 of 12 from the field, including two 3-pointers, and made all three of his foul shots. He also had six assists, one steal and just one turnover in 38 minutes.
Oden added 15 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots – in addition to altering the trajectory of numerous other shots inside.
San Diego St. 62, (15) Air Force 41: At San Diego, Mohamed Abukar scored 16 points and the Aztecs beat the Falcons for their first win against a ranked team in more than five years.
The defending Mountain West Conference champion Aztecs (16-7, 5-4) have won three straight. Air Force (20-4, 7-3) lost for the third time in six games.
SDSU had lost 10 straight games to ranked teams since beating then-No. 21 Fresno State 93-78 on Dec. 8, 2001.
Women
(5) Connecticut 60, (22) Rutgers 50: At Storrs, Conn., Charde Houston scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Huskies to a win over the Scarlet Knights and keep the Huskies undefeated in Big East Play.
It was the seventh consecutive win for Connecticut (21-2, 11-0 Big East) and dropped Rutgers (14-7, 7-3) out of second place in the conference.
(25) James Madison 80, Longwood 42: At Farmville, Va., Meredith Alexis scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Dukes (20-2) thump the Lancers (7-17) for James Madison’s 12th straight win.
Alexis led five players in double figures for the Dukes. Jasmin Lawrence and Tamera Young each added 11 points. Shirley McCall and Jennifer Brown had 10 points apiece.
