Room is still available this spring in several North Idaho College credit courses specifically designed for seniors citizens 60 and older at a discounted rate. All courses are offered on NIC’s main campus in Coeur d’Alene unless otherwise noted.
Cooking Around the World will teach the basics of international cuisines from Thai to South American foods. The class is offered in seven sessions from noon-2 p.m. Mondays and Fridays through March 5. $20.
Nutrition and Aging will offer information on nutritional needs and dietary concerns. The nine-session class is offered from 1-2:50 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 27 through April 24 at the Lake City Senior Center 1916 N. Lakewood Drive in Coeur d’Alene. $20.
Introduction to Word Processing uses Microsoft Word software to teach participants hands-on word processing skills. The class is offered in 14 sessions from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays March 12 through April 25. $20.
Mental Fitness and Aging demonstrates how lifestyle behaviors and cognitive training strategies can maintain or even enhance thinking processes as people age. The eight-session class is offered from 10 a.m.-noon Tuesdays, March 20 through May 8 at the Post Falls Senior Center at 1215 E. Third Street in Post Falls. $30.
Easy and Elegant Desserts focuses on easy, yet elegant desserts that can be prepared at home. The class is offered in seven sessions from noon-2 p.m. Mondays and Fridays March 30 through April 20. $20.
It Don’t Mean a Thing: Discovering Jazz is an introduction to jazz course that features the roots, subgenres and major artists of jazz music. The four-session class is offered from 6-9 p.m. Thursdays, April 19 through May 10. $30.

Another special service NIC offers to senior citizens is the NIC Gold Card program, which offers free admission to all NIC-sponsored events in which admission is charged. Events held on campus but sponsored by entities other than NIC, such as Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, are not included. To sign up for an NIC Gold Card, visit the Admissions Office in Lee-Kildow Hall or call 769-3311. In addition, seniors also qualify for a semester-long parking permit at a reduced rate of $5.
