Girls

Katie Baker and Emma Hawn scored 12 points apiece as Lake City earned a spot in the state tournament with a 55-36 win over Capital in a 5A play-in game Saturday in Grangeville.

Baker added a game-high 11 rebounds and Richelle Fenenbock tossed in 10 points for the Timberwolves (20-4).

Lake City did much of the damage from the free-throw line, converting on 19 of 26 while Capital was 6 of 10.

The Timberwolves will play Borah on Thursday in the first round of the state tournament.

Katie Poston scored a game-high 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds, guiding Bonners Ferry past Weiser 55-34 in a State 3A play-in game in Grangeville.

Becky Lowther added 16 points for the Badgers (16-8), who will meet Filer in the first round of the state tournament.

Boys

Ty Stoddard and James Colburn scored 13 points apiece as Lake City (13-7, 7-5) sneaked past visiting Moscow (13-7, 7-5) 63-56 in overtime in an Inland Empire League game.

Jason Wheelock added 11 points, six steals and five assists for the Timberwolves, who outscored the Bears 11-4 in the overtime period.

Shane Miller tossed in 24 points and Paul Wimer added 22 to lead Moscow.

Elsewhere in the IEL, Shane Moser scored a game-high 23 points and Shad Strerath added 15 as Lewiston (14-4, 9-3) won 70-50 at Sandpoint (8-12, 3-9). Nate Bessler tallied a team-high 15 points and Drake Hanson added 11 to lead the Bulldogs.

James Krejei scored a game-high 12 points and Jesus Mendez added seven points, eight steals and eight rebounds as Bonners Ferry (15-4, 6-1) routed visiting St. Maries (3-17, 0-8) 69-32 in an Intermountain League game. … Elsewhere in the IEL, Seth Ketchum scored 13 points and Ty Ketchum added 10 points and eight boards as Kellogg (13-6, 6-1) topped visiting Priest River (10-9, 3-4) 50-47.
