Thomas leads Dragons to comeback win over Indians

Chessey Thomas scored a game-high 27 points as St. George’s used a great fourth quarter to come back and beat Reardan 62-59 in overtime Saturday in the District 7 2B tournament at Spokane Falls Community College.
The Dragons (16-8) outscored the Indians 17-7 in the fourth quarter to erase a 10-point third-quarter deficit.
Brook Ferderer tallied a team-high 23 points and Jen Christerson added 21 for Reardan (16-8).
St. George’s advances to the District 7/9 Regional tournament Saturday as the third seed. The Indians are seeded No. 4.
In other playoff action at SFCC, Mallory Mielke had 17 points, seven assists and five steals as Davenport (15-9) topped Springdale (13-10) 58-48. Mariah Mielke tossed in 15 points and Stephanie Morrison added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Gorillas, who advance to the regional tournament as the fifth seed. The Chargers are seeded sixth.
•Steven Carson scored a game-high 21 points and Chenise Pakootas and Chelsi Pakootas added 11 each as Inchelium (17-4) whipped Almira/Coulee-Hartline (5-16) 60-36 in a District 7 1B tournament at Hartline. The Hornets will play Curlew in the championship game Saturday at 5 p.m. in Deer Park. The Warriors play Odessa in a loser-out game at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Deer Park.
•Nikki Nelson had 21 points and 10 steals and Kelsey Schalock added 18 points as Chewelah (14-7) beat visiting Newport (7-14) 59-48 in the Northeast A tournament. The Cougars advance to play at top-seeded Colfax (18-2) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Grizzlies are finished for the season. … Aleesha Denney scored a game-high 19 points, leading Lakeside (14-7) to a 61-33 rout of Kettle Falls (2-16) in Nine Mile Falls. Kia Gibson tossed in 12 points and Leslie Stillar added 10 for the Eagles, who led 28-10 at halftime. Lakeside advances to play at No. 2 Freeman at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Bulldogs’ season has concluded.
•Roni Jo Mielke scored a game-high 19 and Jamie Larmer added 15 points as Sprague-Harrington (19-2) topped Colton (18-4) 62-46 in the championship game of the Whitman County tournament in Endicott. The Falcons advance to the 1B District tournament Monday in Walla Walla as the Whitman County League’s top seed. The Wildcats are the No. 2 seed.
•Misty Atkinson scored a game-high 22 points, leading Clarkston (14-4, 11-1) past host Colville (1-17, 0-12) 50-39 in a Great Northern League game. The Bantams set the tone early, outscoring the Indians 17-6 in the first quarter. Jordan Emmill tallied 12 points to lead Colville. … Kyle Miller scored a game-high 20 points, leading Cheney (11-7, 7-5) to a 52-29 rout of host Deer Park (4-14, 3-9). The Blackhawks outscored the Stags 17-4 in the first quarter. Dominque Swenson tallied a team-high 11 points for Deer Park.
Wrestling
Region III: Springdale led qualifying to next week’s first official state girls wrestling tournament at Mat Classic.
Two wrestlers per weight class will compete in the tournament. The Chargers scored 115 points to runner-up Chewelah’s 68 and qualified four to state, including champions Robin Erickson at 112 pounds and Nicole Wehner at unlimited.
Chewelah had two champions, Bekie Gilreath (130) and Rebecca Johnstone (135). Emily Juhre (119) from Central Valley and Kettle Falls’ Destinie Worden (125) also won. Lake Roosevelt had three finalists.
