Helen Connor
Spokane
Helen Margaret Connor celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday. She was born Feb. 10, 1907, in Williston, N.D. She moved to Spokane in 1944.
Connor met her husband, Adrian, on her father’s farm, where he worked during the harvest. They were married in 1929. He died in 1964.
Connor was a teacher from 1927 to 1972. She taught at Evergreen Elementary in Mead. She says she also was involved in Alpha Beta Kappa, chapter of Alpha Sigma and the American Association of University Women.
Connor says clean living, staying active and a sense of humor have contributed to her longevity. She also says keeping up with current events and family genes have helped.
When asked what her most memorable moment in her past 100 years was, she said the birth of her two sons. Her doctor had told her she would never be able to have children.
Connor has two children, Shelley Connor, Spokane, and Clark (Rosalee) Connor, Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
