Auditions

“King Lear” – Ignite’s Booklight Reader’s Theater, today, 6 p.m. at Ignite, 1003 E. Trent. Needed: 16 men to appear 18-88 and three women to appear 18-45. No preparation necessary. Performance date is March 16. Call (509) 993-6540.

“Same Time, Next Year” – North Idaho College Theater Department, Monday and Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. at NIC’s Boswell Hall on the Coeur d’Alene campus. Needed: one man and one woman who will age from their 20s to their 50s during the play. Auditioners will read cold from the script. Call (208) 769-3220.

“Steel Magnolias” – Lake City Playhouse, Monday and Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at the theater, 1320 E. Garden Ave., Coeur d’Alene. Callbacks are Feb. 21. Auditioners should be prepared to read from the script with another actor. Bring a photo of yourself that the theater can keep. Call (208) 667-1323.

Call for writers

Writers Competition – The Coeur d’Alene Public Library’s 19th annual writing contest is seeking unpublished fiction and nonfiction prose of 2,000 words or less (no poetry). Writers age 6 and up may enter. A copy of the rules and an entry form are available at the library, 201 E. Harrison Ave., online at www.cdalibrary.org, or by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to CdA Public Library, 201 E. Harrison Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814-3240. Deadline: March 31. Idaho Prize for Poetry 2007 – The Lost Horse Press is accepting submissions of book-length poetry manuscripts for publication. Entries are due by May 15. Entry fee is $25; a SASE must be included. Call for artists

Arts and Crafts Festival – Artists and crafters needed for the Valleyford Fine Art and Crafters Festival on July 21 at 12212 E. Palouse Highway. Fee is $25 per booth for businesses and $10 for nonprofits. Applications due March 1. Call (509) 747-6294.

Teaching Artists – The Washington State Arts Commission is looking for experienced artists who have expertise with K-12 public schools to form a roster of teaching artists to work with students. Applications are available at www.arts.wa.gov. Deadline is May 1. Call (360) 586-2418.

Inland Crafts – Artist applications are being accepted for the annual juried exhibition at the Spokane Convention Center on Nov. 2-4. Interested artists must submit five representative digital files (no slides) and two optional (a booth or group shot and a detail), a one-page resume and a $15 fee by April 2. Mobius Kids Dinosaur Mural Competition – The children’s museum is looking for a mural to be painted on a curved wall 20 feet, 10 inches wide by 7 feet, 7 1/2 inches tall. The entry should accurately portray the geography and habitat of the dinosaurs depicted. Artists must submit a to-scale drawing about 23 inches wide by 8 3/4 inches tall along with a list of supplies required to complete the mural. The entry deadline is Feb. 28. Art on the Green – Artists are invited to design a poster for this summer’s art show. Entries should be 12 inches by 16 inches, in finished form and unframed; leave space for lettering and a logo. The deadline is March 23. Entries may be brought to the Citizens’ Council for the Arts, 411 N. 15th St., Coeur d’Alene, or the Law Offices of Flammia and Solomon, 317 Wallace, Coeur d’Alene.
