Wallace, Kootenai stay alive

Wallace outscored Cascade 23-8 in the final period to run away with a 63-45 victory Thursday in a girls State 1A consolation game at Nampa, Idaho.

Cara Hayman scored 33 points, including 17 for 20 from the free-throw line, and Lisa Carver added 20 points for the Miners (13-11). Wallace shot 47 percent from the floor and held Cascade to 22 percent shooting.

The Miners will face Council in a loser-out game at 9 a.m. PST today.

Also at the tourney, Cassie Scheffelmaier scored 27 points to lead Kootenai to a 51-31 win over Hagerman. Hannah Nyrop added 17 points for the Warriors (19-4), who outrebounded the Pirates 40-27. Kootenai held Hagerman to 25 percent field-goal shooting, including a 1-for-13 effort from 3-point range. The Warriors will meet Prairie in a loser-out game at 10:45 a.m. PST today.

Boys

Clark Fork wrapped up the North Star League title with a 52-44 win over visiting Lakeside (Plummer). Mike Martin scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Wampus Cats (13-6, 9-1), who also got 10 points from Jared Anderson. Jeremiah Brunelle scored 12 to pace the Knights (8-11, 2-8). … Anthony Cranford scored 14 to lead a balanced scoring attack as Kootenai topped host Mullan 73-36. Jeff Ness and Justin Thomas scored 12 points apiece for the Warriors (10-6, 6-4), and Jay Ploharz paced the Miners (1-19, 0-10) with 12 points.
