Final code hearing will be Thursday

The final public hearing scheduled for the city’s new development code takes place Thursday and focuses on sections of the code that have the biggest influence on what can be built where in Spokane Valley.

At its regular 6 p.m. meeting at City Hall, 11707 E. Sprague Ave., the Planning Commission will hear testimony on titles 19, 22 and 24 of the city’s new uniform development code, as well as definitions and the schedule of permitted uses.

Title 19 and the schedule of uses cover zoning districts, which determine what can be built where and how densely.

Title 22 includes design standards that affect numerous aspects of how neighborhoods are built. It also addresses concurrency – a concept in state law intended to keep developers from building houses and businesses faster than public infrastructure can handle them.

Issues covered by the code include banned farm animals, fencing requirements, sidewalks, adult entertainment, building codes and public notification of new projects.
