Laughter requires best medicine

The Spokesman-Review

After reading the Review of Feb. 10, I had to take an anti-nausea pill. That’s because on page B2 there was a picture of Hanoi Nancy McLaughlin and Slick Willy Hession laughing. I wondered if they were laughing because they have betrayed old retired cops. After all, in Hession’s city of promise, promises made to us old cops 36 years ago have been turned into lies.

Then again, I thought they might be laughing because they have managed to keep Deputy Mayor Lynch’s medical problem a secret. Does that sound suspicious? On page B1 we read that Lynch’s vehicle was spotted by Spokane police at High Bridge Park in August. As the article says, this is the Police Department’s No. 2 spot for illegal sexual activity.

Or maybe they are laughing because their work in Olympia has paid off. This work was mentioned in a letter to the editor written by Tom Keefe (“Shed some light on City Hall,” Jan. 28). He stated that Hession and the City Council were lobbying to legalize future efforts to keep the public in the dark.

Then again, maybe they’re laughing because their betrayals and secrets make them Washington, D.C., material.
