Bulldogs win, advance to play Bears

Sandpoint avenged a 60-52 loss at the hands of Lakeland last Tuesday with a 71-58 win over the Hawks in a 4A Region I playoff game Saturday in Sandpoint.

With the win, the Bulldogs (9-13) advance to play top-seeded Moscow (14-7) Tuesday for a berth to the state tournament. Moscow is 2-0 against Sandpoint this season, having won by 29 and 17 points in January games.

Lakeland (3-19) is finished for the season.

•Ryan Winebark scored a team-high 18 points, leading Bonners Ferry to a 67-60 win over Priest River in a 3A District 1 playoff game at Lakeland High School. Josh Hawks tossed in 12 points and James Krejei added 10 for the Badgers (17-4), who outscored the Spartans (11-11) by seven in the second half. Micah Smith scored a game-high 24 points and Brian Nelson added 17 to lead Priest River.

In other tournament action at Lakeland, Cody Jones scored 14 points and Timberlake used a big second half to beat Kellogg 50-39. Levi Powers chipped in 12 points for the Tigers (7-13), who outscored the Wildcats (14-7) 38-19 in the second half after trailing by eight at halftime. Joshua McDonald scored 11 points and Jonathan Fuller added nine to lead Kellogg. … Timberlake advances to play Bonners Ferry at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the district title game at North Idaho College. Kellogg and Priest River will play in a loser-out game at 6 p.m.
