Gianukakis powers Tigers
Derek Gianukakis scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, leading Republic to a 64-34 rout of Selkirk Saturday in a District 7/9 2B playoff game at Mt. Spokane High School.
The Tigers (24-1) built on their eight-point halftime lead by scoring the first 19 points of the third quarter.
Cody Groth tossed in 12 points and Todd Orestad added 10 points and seven assists for Republic.
In other tournament action at Mt. Spokane, Andrew Canning scored 21 points and dished out nine assists as Liberty crushed Asotin 65-39. Aaron Weis added 18 points for the Lancers (20-5), who will meet Republic at 4:15 p.m. Monday for a chance at a state tournament berth. Asotin will play Selkirk (16-9) at 4:15 Monday at Mt. Spokane in a loser-out game. … Michael Richard scored a game-high 21 points, guiding DeSales to a 54-40 win over St. George’s at Mead High School. Henry Butler tallied a team-high 20 points for the Dragons (17-8). …Also at Mead, Chase Ramey scored a game-high 23 points and Joe Grewe added 16 as Northwest Christian (23-1) smashed Wellpinit (14-12) 80-37. The Crusaders will meet DeSales at 5:45 Monday at Mead in a winner-to-state game while Wellpinit and St. George’s will play in a loser-out contest at 5:45 at Mt. Spokane.

Shawn Hennessey scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Liberty beat Springdale 45-36 at Mt. Spokane. Cami Bullock and Caitlin Jeske chipped in 10 points each for the Lancers (22-2). Sara Taulaki tallied 15 points for the Chargers (13-11). … Chessey Thomas scored a game-high 17 points and Kerry Blake added 14 as St. George’s topped Dayton 52-46. The Dragons (17-8) got out to a quick start, outscoring Dayton 19-3 in the opening quarter. St. George’s will play Liberty at 1 p.m. Monday at Mead in a winner-to-state game. Dayton and Springdale will meet at 1 p.m. Monday in a loser-out game at Mt. Spokane. … Jen Christerson had 21 points, nine steals and eight rebounds as Reardan topped Lind-Ritzville 53-44 at Mead High School. Sarah Wilke added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Indians (17-8). Katlin Fowles and Danielle Sackmann tallied 10 points each for the Broncos (15-9). … Also at Mead, Nicole Duncan scored a game-high 17 points, guiding DeSales past Davenport 48-35. Mariah Mielke tallied a team-high 12 points for the Gorillas (15-10), who will play Lind-Ritzville in a loser-out game at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Mt. Spokane. DeSales and Reardan will meet at 2:30 p.m. Monday in a winner-to-state contest at Mead.
