Teacher of the Year
Some teachers deserve more recognition than a polished apple sitting on the desk. Students and parents are invited to nominate a Washington State teacher for the Teacher of the Year award, sponsored by the Teachers’ Insurance Plan. Entries require an essay of 250 words or less about why the teacher should be honored.
The winning teacher will receive $1,000 and the teacher’s school will receive $500. Nominations are due by March 1. Forms are available online at www.teachers.com/toty. Call (203) 634-7251 for more information.
College scholarships
Parents know that college students can never have too many scholarships. Farmers and Merchants Bank and the Spokane Indians are offering five $500 scholarships to high school seniors in Spokane County. The awards will be given based on scholarship, leadership, character and community involvement. Applications are available through high school scholarship coordinators or can be requested by sending an email to abillig@spokaneindiansbaseball.com.
