Think ahead – Brain Awareness Week coming up

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Brain Awareness Week, a series of events around the world to raise interest in nervous-system research, takes place March 10 to 17.

In Spokane, the Seniors Program of the Institute for Extended Learning will hold special events all week.

On March 10 from 9:30 a.m. to noon, there will be an opening ceremony and art show at the Southside Senior Activity Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave.

All of the artwork to be on display was created by seniors.

A proclamation from the Spokane County commissioners, observing World Brain Awareness Week, will be read.

During the week, seniors will work with grade-school classes around the city to present a basic neuroscience program, “A Day in the Life of a Healthy Brain.”

A closing ceremony will be on March 16 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Lair Building 6, Deli Meeting Room, at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St.

The ceremony will feature an interactive workshop on creativity, aging and brain health.
