Symphony concert at Nazarene church

The Spokane Symphony will perform a concert of symphonic favorites by American composers on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, 15515 E. 20th Ave.

The program includes “Fanfare for the Common Man” and “Buckaroo Holiday” by Aaron Copland; “Bugler’s Holiday” by Lee Roy Anderson; “Washington Post March” by John Philip Sousa; selections from “Porgy & Bess” by George Gershwin, “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein, “South Pacific” by Rogers and Hammerstein and “Sophisticated Ladies” by Duke Ellington; “Adagio for Strings” by Samuel Barber; and “The Unanswered Question” by Charles Ives. Associate Conductor Morihiko Nakahara conducts.

Tickets are $7 in advance at the church or the symphony ticket office (818 W. Riverside Suite 100, 509-624-1200) or $10 at the door. Admission is $20 for a family of up to five people.

Celtic Music Spokane

“Blarney Goes for Baroque,” a program of 18th century Irish music, will be performed as part of the Celtic Music Spokane series on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Westminster Congregational Church, 411 S. Washington St.

Consort Bon Accord will play works by Irish harper Turlough O’Carolan and his contemporaries on harp, fiddle and hammered dulcimer.
