Britney’s back in rehab, and K-Fed’s keeping the kids.

Britney Spears‘ mother drove her back to a Malibu substance abuse center late Wednesday – the same one she had left that morning after less than a day’s stay.

Meanwhile, she and estranged husband Kevin Federline agreed that he would take care of their infant sons while she completed the program, which typically takes 30 to 45 days.

In light of the developments, Federline canceled a scheduled Thursday appearance in family court. It wasn’t known what issue he planned to raise.

Federline sought spousal support and sole custody of Jayden James, 5 months, and Sean Preston, 17 months, after Spears moved to end their two-year marriage in November. A temporary court order granted joint custody through this month.

Spears shaved her head and got a new tattoo over the weekend in an apparent meltdown that resulted in her trip to rehab.

Double Cross

Elsewhere on the celebrity offspring front, it’s twin girls for Marcia Cross.

The 44-year-old “Desperate Housewives” actress gave birth to fraternal twins Eden and Savannah this week.

Cross, who was expecting in April, was put on bed rest in January. The final scenes of her latest storyline on “Housewives,” which wrapped up Sunday, were filmed at her home.

No, no, Nona

A British woman who claims she is the mother of Michael Jackson‘s three children cannot intervene in the pop star’s custody settlement with his ex-wife, a judge has ruled.

Nona Paris Lola Jackson filed a motion demanding a role in the custody settlement between the singer and Deborah Rowe.

She claims that she and Michael Jackson are a “sexually active couple” and that she has written more than 3,000 songs for him.

The judge in the case ruled she hadn’t properly notified Jackson and Rowe of her claims, adding she hadn’t provided “credible evidence” she was the children’s birth mother.

Tomi in memorial

Tomi Rae Hynie, the mother of the late James Brown‘s young son, has made a tribute album featuring duets recorded with him.

It’s tentatively titled “Mrs. Brown: This Is For You.” No release date has been set.

Hynie, a former backup singer for Brown who says she was his fourth wife, is involved in a dispute over rights to his estate.

Britney’s headed her way

Us Weekly’s Web site has uncovered a video shot by the late Anna Nicole Smith saying that she wanted to be Britney Spears‘ friend.

In the video, intended for use on her own Web site, Smith says to Spears: “If you see this for some oddball reason, because I look at your stuff, too, and you want to be friends, I would love so much to hang out with you.

“I think you’re totally cool, and I think we’re about to have babies around the same time. … I would just love to meet you.”
