Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Andrew Strait scored inside with 2.9 seconds remaining in overtime to give Montana a 72-71 win over Idaho State on Monday night in Pocatello, Idaho.

Montana’s victory kept alive Eastern Washington’s hopes for a spot in the Big Sky Conference tournament. Idaho State (12-16, 7-8 Big Sky) could still close out the Eagles (15-14, 8-8) if it beats Montana State tonight at home in the final regular-season game.

If ISU wins, it would pull into a sixth-place tie with EWU, but the Bengals have the tie-breaking edge.

Strait was fouled on the winning basket, but the center missed his free throw and ISU guard Akbar Abdul-Ahad’s last-second shot from just over half court missed, sealing the victory.

Jordan Hasquet had tied the game at 65 for the Grizzlies with two free throws with 34 seconds remaining in regulation. David Schroeder missed a potential game-winning shot as time expired, sending the game to OT.

Hasquet and Cameron Rundles led Montana with 17 points apiece. Rundles scored all his in the second half, including five 3-pointers. He also had the game-winning assist, feeding Strait.

Hasquet and Stuart Mayes each had 13 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who outrebounded ISU 41-32.

David Schroeder led Idaho State with 16 points. John Ofoegbu had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Monday’s game was the regular season finale for Montana (16-14, 10-6), which advances to the Big Sky tournament.

Sacramento State 105, Weber State 83: At Sacramento, Roderick Adams had 20 points, seven assists, seven steals and five rebounds to lead the Hornets to a win over the Wildcats.

Haron Hargrave had 30 points and Alex Bausley added 15 points for the Hornets (10-19, 5-11 Big Sky), who will miss the conference tournament for the first time in five years.

Dezmon Harris had 28 points, six assists and nine turnovers for the Wildcats (18-11, 11-5), who failed to clinch the Big Sky championship.

They will still finish with no less than a share of the conference title if Northern Arizona defeats Northern Colorado today in Flagstaff, Ariz. If Northern Colorado wins, Weber will win the title outright.

Sacramento State shot 58 percent from the field, 46 percent beyond the arc and 75 percent from the free throw line in the second half to build up a 30-point lead on a layup by Hargrave with two minutes left in the game.

Weber State’s 29 turnovers led to 42 points Hornets’ points.
