To London to visit the queen?
Helen Mirren, who won the best actress Oscar for playing Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen,” may be invited to tea with her.
The film’s director, Stephen Frears, has already suggested that he, Mirren and screenwriter Peter Morgan would visit the queen at Buckingham Palace next month.
“It is speculation, but we are looking at a number of options,” a palace spokeswoman said Monday.
“The Queen” retells the aftermath of Princess Diana‘s death 10 years ago.
The Oscar ceremony began at 12:30 a.m. Monday morning in England and was broadcast only on a pay-TV movie channel.
But news of Mirren’s win was inescapable Monday, dominating newspaper front pages and television newscasts.
“I’m sure that the queen will be pleased,” the palace spokeswoman said.
Mirren saluted the queen in her acceptance speech for maintaining “her dignity, her sense of duty and her hairstyle” for 50-plus years.
Gimme a ‘B’ – for busted
For the second time in a year, Bobby Brown was arrested while visiting Canton, Mass., to watch his daughter at a cheerleading contest.
The R&B singer was picked up Sunday night for failing to appear at a child support hearing in October involving an ex-girlfriend who’s the mother of two of his three children.
Last March, Brown was nabbed for minor motor vehicle violations dating back 14 years when he arrived for a similar competition.
He and pop diva Whitney Houston are divorcing after a 14-year marriage.
A little re-Peet
Amanda Peet is a new mom.
The “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” actress gave birth last week to daughter Frances Pen, who weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces.
Peet’s pregnancy was worked into the plot of “Studio 60,” which was pulled from NBC’s schedule this week after 15 episodes. The network says it will return at some point.
Rowdy or not?
A misdemeanor assault case against Hank Williams Jr. has been dismissed, nearly a year after a Memphis cocktail waitress accused him of yelling obscenities and choking her.
Holly Hornbeak, who was 19 at the time of the alleged assault, testified that the country singer left red marks and bruised her neck.
Prosecutors would not say whether Hornbeak wanted to drop the case or if the parties reached a financial settlement.
Earlier this month, Williams filed for divorce from his fourth wife, Mary Jane.
And speaking of Mary Jane …
