Top 25: Cowboys set scoring record, rout Bulldogs
Mario Boggan scored a career-high 36 points and JamesOn Curry added 31 as No. 12 Oklahoma State set a school scoring record in a 129-77 rout of Southwestern Oklahoma State (10-1) on Tuesday night in Stillwater, Okla.
Oklahoma State (14-1) posted its first 100-point game since Jan. 30, 2005, when the Cowboys beat Colorado 104-86, and broke the previous school record of 127 points, set Dec. 3, 1977, against Santa Fe.
Oklahoma State never trailed, although the Bulldogs – who entered averaging 93.1 points per game – managed to keep their deficit to single digits for most of the first 11 minutes.
Oklahoma State extended its lead to as many as 52 points. The Cowboys passed the 100-point mark on a three-point play by Boggan with 6:41 left.
(3) Florida 89, Liberty 58: At Gainesville, Fla., Joakim Noah led five Florida players in double figures with 15 points and the Gators (13-2) breezed past the Flames (6-8).
The win gave the Gators 13 regular-season non-conference victories, the second-best total in school history behind last season’s 14.
(5) Duke 73, Temple 55: At Durham, N.C., Josh McRoberts had a career-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Blue Devils (13-1) past the Owls (6-6). DeMarcus Nelson scored 14 points and had a career-best 11 rebounds for Duke (13-1), which extended the nation’s longest non-conference home win streak to 51 games.
(6) Ohio St. 74, Indiana 67: At Columbus, Ohio, Greg Oden scored 19 points and Othello Hunter added 14 to help the Buckeyes (12-2, 1-0) beat the Hoosiers (9-4, 0-1), spoiling Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson’s first Big Ten game.
(11) Texas A&M 71, Winthrop 51: At College Station, Texas, Acie Law had 22 points and eight assists as the Aggies (12-2) beat the Eagles (10-4).
(18) Connecticut 69, South Florida 50: At Hartford, Conn., Jeff Adrien and Jerome Dyson both scored 16 points and the Huskies (12-1, 1-1 Big East) beat the Bulls (9-6, 0-1).
Women
(2) North Carolina 69, Georgia Tech 57: At Atlanta, Camille Little scored 18 points, Ivory Latta and LaToya Pringle each added 16 and the Tar Heels (16-0) rallied in the second half for a win over the Yellow Jackets (8-5) in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.
(5) Connecticut 63, West Virginia 44: At Morgantown, W.Va., Charde Houston and Kalana Greene scored 15 points apiece and the Huskies (12-0, 2-0 Big East) overcame a sluggish start for a victory over the Mountaineers (8-6, 0-2).
(12) Stanford 80, Fresno State 52: At Fresno, Calif., Jayne Appel scored 15 points, Brooke Smith added 13 and the Cardinal (10-3) routed the Bulldogs (7-6) for their eighth consecutive victory. Jillian Harmon had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season for the Cardinal, who scored the game’s first 16 points.
(17) Texas A&M 70, Western Illinois 36: At College Station, Texas, La Toya Micheaux had 14 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and five steals as the Aggies (10-2) beat the Westerwinds (3-10).
(21) California 65, Rhode Island 53: At Berkeley, Calif., Ashley Walker had 18 points and 15 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, leading the Golden Bears (11-3) past the Rams (2-12).
