PARENTAL GUIDANCE
The Spokesman- Review Parents Council is back in swing after a long holiday break. On the Parents Council blog, members get together to share stories and advice related to parenting.
Among the topics posted this week:
Baby names: “Why do so many parents try to create unusual names? Are they then upset when other parents or your kids’ classmates constantly misspell or mispronounce the name?” – Mikayla
Teaching values: “I was working out at the gym the day the breaking news came on the TV about the high school shooting in Tacoma. It made us all stop and listen. An older gentleman struck up a conversation about the problems with kids today. He started out by asking what happened to a simple fist fight.
“How do we teach values to our children?” – Lisa P.
Caught in a lie: “Our 7-year-old (nearly 8 has told two lies to us in the past couple of months. They haven’t been significant or important ones, and as he’s a terrible liar they were pretty easy to catch.
“I would really like ideas on effective ways other parents have helped their children learn to tell the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.”
– Rachel
The members guide the discussion, but anyone is welcome to participate. Add your two cents by going to spokesmanreview.com/ blogs/parents.
