Sun Devils edge Huskies
TEMPE, Ariz. – Dymond Simon made a free throw with 50.4 seconds left to break a tie and No. 13 Arizona State held off Washington for an 88-83 win Sunday in Pacific-10 Conference play that snapped the Huskies’ nine-game winning streak.
Central Valley graduate Emily Westerberg scored 22 points before fouling out with 1:30 remaining and Simon added 15 for Arizona State, which trailed by as many as 11 in the first half and eight early in the second.
Stefanie Clark scored 21 points and Cameo Hicks and Andrea Plouffe added 16 apiece for the Huskies (12-5, 5-1).
The Huskies built a 38-27 lead in the first half, but Arizona State scored the last six points to cut the advantage to 44-40 at the break. The Huskies made seven of their first 10 shots and finished the night 34 of 64 from the field.
Washington has lost four straight to Arizona State.
