The Spokesman-Review

Trevor Wakem converted six overtime free throws and tossed in a 3-pointer Tuesday as University slipped past visiting Lewis and Clark 64-62 in a Greater Spokane League boys basketball game.

The Titans (4-8) stormed to a 24-7 lead early in the second quarter, trailed by 10 points after three quarters, then outscored the Tigers 19-9 in the final period that sent the game into OT.

Wakem, who missed the front end of two 1-and-1 situations in the game’s final 17 seconds – enabling LC (3-9) to tie – was 6 for 6 in the extra period as U-Hi shot to a six-point lead and hung on.

U-Hi’s bookend quarters were mirrored by the shooting of sophomore Mason Johnson, who scored all of his 18 points either in the hot first quarter or after the fourth quarter began.

Nick Hardrick, who finished with 24 points, scored 18 after intermission, including all of LC’s fourth-quarter scores.

Ferris 56, Central Valley 53: The host Bears (4-8) dug themselves a first-quarter hole, trailing 19-5, but made things interesting in the second half by nearly coming all the way back. Shawn Stockton led the Saxons (12-0) with 20 points.

CV sophomores William Davis and Michael Williams combined for 24.

Mead 63, Rogers 49: The Panthers (9-3) scored 19 points off of 21 turnovers to turn back the visiting Pirates (4-8). Key points came with Mead leading 28-24 in the second quarter when Brendan Ingebritsen hit a 3-pointer, then stole the inbounds pass for a basket as the team went up 33-24 at half. Ingebritsen and Lucas Ashe each scored 17 points for the victors.

Gonzaga Prep 57, Mt. Spokane 41: The visiting Bullpups tied the Wildcats (both 6-5) for fourth in the GSL by taking an early lead and building on it. Three players, led by Kevin Kunz’s 12 points, scored in double figures for G-Prep. Ryan Selland had 15 for Mt. Spokane.
