Competing at 160 pounds, returning state participant Noah Hatton scored a pin at the 2:18 mark to help visiting Mt. Spokane to a 39-34 win over Gonzaga Prep in Greater Spokane League action Wednesday.

Rjan Robertson (171) and Justin Scott (125) also recorded pins for the Wildcats (5-3), while Joe Lindsey (285) scored a 3-0 decision.

In the opening match of the night, Trevor Brown used a takedown in overtime to pull out a 10-8 decision for the Bullpups (2-6) in the 152-pound class. Teammate John Healy (145), who placed fifth in last year’s state tournament, made quick work of his opponent by delivering a pin in 1:23.

In other GSL action, Nathan Brown scored the deciding pin in the 103-pound match to give North Central a 38-32 win over visiting Ferris. Dan Bolen and Jon Tyler also scored late wins for the Indians (3-3) in the back-and-forth contest. Junior Ryyan Kernkamp landed a 12-3 decision for the Saxons (1-6) in the 285-pound match to make it a 32-all contest heading into the final match. … Bruce McCracken (152) scored an early decision for Shadle Park (1-5), but host Central Valley stormed back for a 45-20 win. Sam Neumann (112) earned a 6-4 decision for the Bears (7-0), who received pins from five wrestlers, including Tanner Teeples (119), a state-champion transfer from Utah. In a back-and-forth match at 135, the Highlanders’ Blaine Shippy pulled out an 11-9 decision over Jeremy Savage. … Dan Michalski (189), Jordan Berezay (215), Sean Biltoft (119), Ben Adams (140) and Nic Price (145) all recorded pins to help in East Valley’s 60-11 thumping of visiting Rogers. Kyle Hunter (112) and Clete Hanson (171) contributed major decisions for the Knights (6-0). Marcus Clark (135) scored the lone pin of the night for the Pirates (0-7). … Brian Owen (125) and Brad Peterson (285) recorded quick pins in University’s (7-0) 40-21 win over Mead. Jacob Anderson opened the night for the Panthers (4-3) with a 5-3 decision at 119.

“Deer Park used seven pins, including three in the first four matches, to steamroll past visiting West Valley 75-18 in the Great Northern League. In the opening 125-pound match, sophomore Justin Eldrid fell behind 9-2 but earned the win for the Stags by pinning Quinn Gannon at the 4:46 mark. DP freshman Drew Acorn bumped up a weight class to 112 and rose to the challenge with a 15-0 technical fall over Kevin Udell. … Clarkston fell behind early but pulled ahead with the help of six straight wins to defeat host Medical Lake 46-15.

Gymnastics

Maria Alderman placed first all-around with a score of 33.65 to lead Central Valley in a Greater Spokane League win at Ferris. The Bears’ score of 155.6 topped Ferris (139.275), North Central (125.025) and Rogers (117.65). Alderman used first-place finishes in the uneven bars and floor exercise, and third-place finishes in the balance beam and vault to record the top all-around score. Teammates Courtney Sexton (31.425) and Amanda Brantley (29.375) joined Alderman in the all-around top five with a third- and fifth-place finish, respectively. North Central’s Christy Grorud (31.752) finished second overall. … Seniors Tonya Turner (36.75) and Ashley Dotson (35.225) didn’t disappoint on Senior Night – finishing first and second in the all-around, respectively, to help lead Mead in a dual win over visiting Mt. Spokane, 164.45 to 132.125.

Junior hockey

Evan Witt scored two goals, Shane Davis scored twice and added an assist, and Jason Greenwall made 56 saves for his second consecutive shutout as the Spokane Braves produced a 5-0 win at Castlegar, British Columbia, in KIJHL play.
