NBA : Maggette’s clutch shot brings down Wolves

Corey Maggette came back from a brief injury absence to score 21 points, sinking the winning shot from the corner with less than 5 seconds left Wednesday night in the Los Angeles Clippers’ 92-91 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minneapolis.

Kevin Garnett, who had 19 points and 17 rebounds, missed his chance to do the same thing when his jumper bounced off the rim at the buzzer.

Spurs 92, Nuggets 83: At Denver, Tony Parker scored 26 points and Tim Duncan had 19 to help San Antonio stave off Denver.

Bobcats 103, Pistons 96: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Raymond Felton had 18 points and seven assists and Adam Morrison added 16 points to help Charlotte to a win over Detroit.

Pacers 97, Celtics 84: At Boston, Jermaine O’Neal scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half and Jamaal Tinsley added 17 points and 13 assists to help Indiana beat Boston.

Magic 91, Warriors 76: At Oakland, Calif., Dwight Howard had a career-high 30 points and a season-high 25 rebounds and Orlando won its fifth straight game, defeating Golden State.

Rockets 102, Lakers 77: At Houston, Juwan Howard scored a season-high 23 points and Dikembe Mutombo moved past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar into second place on the all-time blocks list with 3,191 in Houston’s victory over Los Angeles.

Mavericks 99, Trail Blazers 74: At Dallas, Jason Terry scored 20 points and Josh Howard added 17 as Dallas beat Portland.

Knicks 106, 76ers 99: At New York, Stephon Marbury scored 24 points, Eddy Curry added 20 points and 10 rebounds and New York rolled to a victory over Philadelphia.

Wizards 113, Bulls 103: At Washington, with Gilbert Arenas slowed again by Chicago, Washington relied on strong contributions from Caron Butler, Antonio Daniels and DeShawn Stevenson to beat the Bulls.

Hornets 96, Hawks 77: At Atlanta, Jannero Pargo scored 24 points and Rasual Butler added 21 to help New Orleans end a five-game losing streak with a victory over Atlanta.

Raptors 90, Bucks 77: At Milwaukee, Chris Bosh scored 30 points and added six blocks to lead Toronto to a victory over Milwaukee.

The Philadelphia 76ers completed the paperwork to buy out the remaining 1 1/2 seasons on Chris Webber’s contract, ending two disappointing years for the former All-Star who did not want to be part of the franchise’s rebuilding process.

“Nate Robinson (suspension) and Quentin Richardson (back spasms) returned to the New York Knicks, and Steve Francis (injured right knee) still plans to join them at some point.

Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith returned from his 10-game suspension for fighting, but wasn’t in the starting lineup against the San Antonio Spurs.
