Shock af2 title has ring to it

The spoils of victory have arrived at the Spokane Shock office.

The arenafootball2 champions have started to pick up their Arena Cup rings and the reaction has been good.

“I think it’s classy, I like it,” said quarterback Kyle Rowley. “It has a lot of rocks on them. It’s real classy.”

“Unbelievable,” said lineman Chris DiSanto. “This is what happens when you work hard and get the job done.”

“It will definitely be on display whether it is on me or in a trophy case,” said defensive back Jesse Hendrix.

Sweater Night greets Zags

Along with a talented Santa Clara team and a hostile sellout crowd of more than 4,500, the Gonzaga Bulldogs will have to deal with “Dick Davey Argyle Sweater Night” when they take on the Broncos in the Leavey Center tonight at 8.

The promotion is geared to honor the wide range of sweater styles Broncos coach Davey has displayed during his 15-year coaching career. Fans have been encouraged to wear their best argyle or red sweater to the game, with the one sporting the best Davey-style sweater receiving a Broncos gift pack.

You can access a photo gallery showing some of Davey’s past sweaters at santaclarabroncos.com.

Former Bear picks Seahawks

Among those who believe the Seahawks will win Sunday is a former Chicago Bear.

“I’ll say 21-10,” said Dr. Stefan Humphries, medical director at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute in Spokane.

An offensive lineman in his playing days, Humphries was a member of the Super Bowl-winning 1985 Bears.

He said he thinks the quarterback situation tilts the scales in Seattle’s favor. He regards the Bears’ early-season trouncing of the Seahawks as utterly irrelevant.

“I really think that Seattle’s going to win,” said Humphries.

Asked which team he’ll be rooting for, the University of Michigan graduate laughed. “Where do I live now?”
