Web offers many peaks of interest

Adventures

This past weekend I was in Banff with my son climbing frozen waterfalls. But before I left Spokane, I looked on Gravsports.com, Will Gadd’s Web site, for the latest ice conditions, route information, and links to sites for Banff/Jasper weather and local avalanche conditions.

Armed with that information, I chose an ice climb in good condition and relatively safe from avalanche.

Other sites I frequently visit are:

•Mountain zone.com, a site covering the world of radical sport and keeps me in awe of what the human spirit can accomplish.

•Everestnews .com, a site keeping me in touch with international climbing news. It’s interesting to read the accounts of successes or failures by a younger generation on peaks I climbed so many years ago.

•Nandadevi.prayaga.org. The 1976 Indo-American expedition to Nanda Devi in India holds a special place in my heart. I’m compelled to stay informed about the local people, the mountain itself and the area’s future. This site is updated frequently on the activities of the locals and the future of eco-tourism.

Personal interests

To satisfy my other interests, like Porsches, birds and writing, I look to:

www.barrett-jackson.com, a car-buying site that reminds me I got a bargain on my car.

www.spokaneaudubon.org/ dexterdelights.htm opens my eyes to the bird photos and insights of Ron Dexter, a Spokane-area ornithologist and photographer.

www.scriptwritingsecrets.com, where I go for help to continue writing my movie script based on one of my past climbs.

Government stuff

I also sit on a three-person quasi-judicial board called the Eastern Washington Growth Management Hearings Board. Every day I use the following sites as part of my job:

www.gmhb.wa.gov, our official board site.

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw, for quick access to the Revised Code of Washington.

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac, for quick access to the Washington Administrative Code.
