Ugandan children’s choir

The Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda will perform at two Spokane churches next week.

Concerts are scheduled Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road, and Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave.

Watoto means “the children.” The choir from Kampala, Uganda, is made up of children who have lost one or both of their parents to war or to the AIDS virus.

The group has traveled the United States, Great Britain and Canada to perform contemporary gospel music, ethnic dance and African rhythms.

Admission is free, but the group will accept donations.

Speaker events

“The Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., is presenting Bhante Seelawimala today from 1 to 4 p.m.

Seelawimala, a Therevada monk from Sri Lanka who is an adjunct professor at the Institute of Buddhist Studies in Berkeley, Calif., will speak on the topic “Your Spiritual Path.”

Admission is by a $5 donation.

St. Francis Xavier and St. Patrick Roman Catholic parishes are presenting speaker Mark Shea on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of St. Francis Xavier, 545 E. Providence Ave.

Shea, senior editor of the Web site www.catholicexchange.com and a Catholic apologist, will speak on the topic “101 Reasons Not to Be Catholic.”

Christian singles group

Christian Singles Fellowship is holding its monthly meeting today at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of North Addison Baptist Church, 6120 N. Addison St.
