Gonzaga thumps Portland

Stephanie Hawk notched a double-double and junior Michelle Elliott came off the bench to score a team-high 12 points Saturday to lead the Gonzaga Bulldogs to a 61-48 West Coast Conference victory over the Portland Pilots at McCarthey Athletic Center.

Hawk, a senior, finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds, including six off the offensive glass. It was her sixth double-double of the season. Freshman Heather Bowman added 10 points, six rebounds and five assists for Gonzaga (13-8), which sits atop the WCC standings with a 5-0 record and has won six straight games.

Laiken Dollente scored 17 for the Pilots (8-12, 0-5).

“Andrea Plouffe tossed in 14 points and Stefanie Clark scored 13 to lead the Washington Huskies (13-7, 6-3 Pac-10) to an 86-64 victory over the Washington State Cougars (5-14, 1-8) in Seattle.

Freshman Marisa Statler scored a game-high 15 for WSU.

Washington’s Cameo Hicks, held scoreless in the first half, scored 12 in the second to run her double-digit scoring streak to 15 games.

Colleen Betteridge and Katie Appleton each scored 12 for the Cougars, who haven’t beaten the Huskies since Feb. 25, 1995.

“Heather Barbour scored a game-high 17 points to lead four players in double figures and the Northern Colorado Bears (4-14, 1-5) romped to a 78-54 Big Sky Conference victory over the Eastern Washington Eagles (6-13, 1-5) in Greeley, Colo.

Katy Baker came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points for the Eagles. Teammate Sydney Benson finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds and Nicole Scott chipped in 10 points.

“Karli Thomas hit all six of her shots from the floor and scored 13 points to lead the Columbia Basin Hawks (14-5, 5-1) to a 56-55 win over the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (13-6, 3-3) in NWAACC play at Spokane Falls CC.

CC Spokane’s Liz Beardslee scored 13 to tie for game-high honors. Kellee Neal added 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Sasquatch.

“Simone Jordan netted a game-high 17 points to lead the North Idaho Cardinals (14-4, 6-2) to a 72-53 victory over the visiting College of Eastern Utah Golden Eagles (8-10, 2-6) – their second win over CEU in as many nights – in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

Kay Hill and Niki Scott each added 11 points for NIC.
