Scott Dougherty scored a career-high 19 points, including a pair of free throws with 12.6 seconds remaining, to help Santa Clara beat San Francisco 61-58 in West Coast Conference men’s basketball action Monday night in San Francisco.

Manny Quezada scored 16 points to lead the Dons, who lost their second straight after a three-game winning streak.

San Francisco played without sophomore guard Antonio Kellogg, who will sit out three games to concentrate on academics.

The transfer from Connecticut leads San Francisco – and is sixth in the conference – with a 15.1 scoring average.

Saint Mary’s 85, San Diego 78: At San Diego, Diamon Simpson scored 21 points and Ian O’Leary added 18 to lead the Gaels to a win over the Toreros.

Saint Mary’s made 32 of 46 free throws, compared to 16 of 27 for San Diego.

Quinton Hosley scored 17 points and Dominic McGuire added 15 to help Fresno State defeat San Jose State 67-64 in Fresno, Calif.

McGuire also posted 13 rebounds and five blocks.
