Forest stewardship course planned
Registration deadline is Friday for a seven-week forest stewardship course for private landowners that is sponsored by the state Department of Natural Resources and Washington State University Forestry Extension.
Class topics include forest ecology, health, soils and inventory, wildlife management, silvicultural techniques, site regeneration, riparian and water quality issues, forest practices regulations and special forest products.
Classes are Feb. 8, 15, 22 and March 1, 8, 15 and 22, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Deer Park branch of the Spokane County Library District, 208 S. Forest Ave.
Participants will be able to develop forest management plans for their properties and become eligible for reduced “current use” property tax rates, along with other benefits.
