Copper wire stolen from construction site

The Spokesman-Review

Burglars struck a Spokane Valley construction site overnight Monday and made off with an $800 Bosch table saw and nearly $4,500 in copper wire, said Sgt. Dave Reagan, Spokane Valley police spokesman.

An employee for Inland Group said the site at 1201 N. Evergreen Road was entered between 4:30 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday. Thieves removed 6,000 feet of electrical wire from an unlocked garage.

Although the employee had no specific suspects to offer, he said he did see a brown Chevrolet Tahoe with two men inside driving around the site about 1 p.m. Monday.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Spokane Valley police at 242-TIPS.

Anyone who uses copper or aluminum cable, ladders, concrete forms or similar metal products should take extra precautions to secure those items, Reagan said. Current high prices for scrap copper and aluminum make these items a high priority for thieves.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A sheriff’s deputy arrested a Spokane-area resident Wednesday after finding them in possession of suspected crack cocaine during a traffic investigation.

On Wednesday, Deputy Shawn Audie was patrolling near Upriver Drive and Ely in the Pasadena Park area when he spotted a vehicle that had a defective headlight and exhaust system.

He stopped the car, identified the driver as 41-year-old Gregory G. Edison, and determined Edison’s driver’s license was suspended. He arrested him and during a subsequent search found a suspected rock of crack cocaine in a tied-off plastic bindle in Edison’s pants pocket.

Edison, 9719 N. Arrowhead Road, was booked into the Spokane County Jail for possession of controlled substance and third-degree driving while license suspended.
