My favorite car: 1970 Mercury Cougar
Name: Ben and Gina Ewing, Spokane.
Purchased: September 1991, from a young married student needing tuition money, more than his newly acquired one-owner Cougar. The car was our oldest son’s first car. His expectation was a 1967 Mustang fastback … the happy reality was spotting this Cougar.
Why we love it: Since our son has graduated and is living/working in Seattle, we were appointed “caretakers” of the car. Cougars of this vintage were relatively few in production numbers, and are not often seen on the street. The original key-lime green (baby poo green) paint is now covered by a dark-green metallic. The interior is original. It is a fun drive and gets lots of attention, especially from folks our age. We get to house, wash, maintain and enjoy our son’s car. Not a bad deal all around!
Our next car will be: No plans.
If you have a favorite car (or truck), we want you to share your passion with our readers. Send a picture of you and your favorite car (it’s OK if you’re in the picture, but the car or truck must be prominent), and include the following information: your name and age, make, model and year of vehicle, when you bought it, why you love it (including a favorite experience with the car if you have one), and what you expect your next car will be. Send it to Pete Tormey, The Spokesman-Review, 999 W. Riverside Ave., Spokane, WA 99201 or via e-mail to petet@spokesman.com.
