Spokane blanks Swift Current

The Spokesman-Review

SWIFT CURRENT, Saskatchewan – Michael Grabner’s goal near the end of the first period Friday proved to be the only one Spokane would need in a 3-0 win over Swift Current in a Western Hockey League matchup.

Grabner, who also chipped in an assist, has scored in two consecutive games and is tied for the team lead with 23 goals this season. Adam Hobson and Drayson Bowman each scored power-play goals for the Chiefs (26-24), who converted half of their power-play opportunities.

Hobson has scored in two straight games and Bowman has scored a power-play goal in the past three. Evan Haw and Ondrej Roman each had two assists for Spokane.

Kevin Armstrong recorded 19 saves en route to his second shutout of the season.

Swift Current had six power-play opportunities but could not convert.

Kyle Moir stopped 29 shots in a losing effort for the Broncos (24-27).

The Chiefs have won two straight and are third in the U.S. Division. Spokane will visit Kootenay at 6 p.m. today. The game will be aired on 790-AM.
