Blackhawks end their skid at 10 games

Denis Arkhipov ended Chicago’s losing streak at 10, scoring a power-play goal at 2:53 of overtime to give the Blackhawks a 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames on Sunday in Chicago.

Arkhipov beat Miikka Kiprusoff with a high screened shot from the right circle.

Arkhipov had deflected in Duncan Keith’s shot from the left wing with 44 seconds left to tie it at 3 and set up overtime.

Chicago won for the first time since Jan. 2 in St. Louis, ending an 0-8-2 slide. The Blackhawks also won for the first time at home since Dec. 26, stopping an 0-6-2 run.

Alex Tanguay scored on a breakaway with 3:17 left in the third to give Calgary a 3-2 lead.

Ducks 4, Stars 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Andy McDonald scored twice and Teemu Selanne had a goal and an assist, leading the Ducks to a victory over Dallas.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 30 saves after missing 11 games with a groin strain. The 2003 playoff MVP, who was leading the NHL with 23 wins when he was injured on Dec. 26 at San Jose, is 12-2-0 over his last 14 starts.

Red Wings 3, Avalanche 1: At Detroit, Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom each had a goal and an assist to lift the Red Wings to a win over Colorado.

Kirk Maltby got the other goal, and Dominik Hasek made 11 saves for Detroit.

Flyers 2, Thrashers 1: At Atlanta, Jeff Carter scored two goals, including the game-winner with 1:02 remaining, as Philadelphia snapped a nine-game losing streak with a win over the Thrashers.

It was also Philadelphia goalie Antero Nittymaki’s first win since a 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Nov. 30, snapping a personal 15-game skid.

Canucks 3, Sharks 1: At Vancouver, British Columbia, Taylor Pyatt scored on a power play midway through the second period and set up Daniel Sedin’s winning goal two minutes later as the Canucks rallied to beat San Jose.

Brendan Morrison added an empty-net goal with 9.5 seconds left, and Roberto Luongo stopped 39 shots as the Canucks improved to 11-1-2 since Dec. 25 and moved into first place in the Northwest Division.
