Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Readers: For all those silver- or light-haired folks out there who use shampoos with blue or violet additives for removing that unwanted yellow tinge, I have a hint just for you from me. Here’s what I do: Mix the “bluing” shampoo with regular shampoo (start with half and half) and a little water to thin the shampoo. This lets me use the “Heloise blue shampoo” without overdoing the bluing effect, or worse. This also saves money.

For removing product buildup that might cause your hair to yellow, you can also try using a solution of 4 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of warm water. Mix well, pour on your hair and massage it in, and be sure to bring it out to the ends. Then rinse, shampoo and condition as usual. – Heloise
