The Slice
So it turns out there can be a distinct downside to brainwashing your child into believing that your alma mater is the best college in America.
For example, your kid might wind up wanting to actually go there. If the school in question is in another state, that could be an expensive proposition.
I know this guy who is a rabid University of Oregon Duck. He has a son who is about to pick a college. Not surprisingly, after 18 years of soaking up green-and-yellow propaganda, the boy envisions himself matriculating in Eugene.
This boy’s dad, Mr. Duck, has looked at the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuitions. So he has been talking up the merits of the University of Washington.
The kid’s reaction? “I could never be a Husky.”
Sometimes the things we say come back to bite us on the tail feathers.
