Connected to the past
So many of us are living far away from the places and people we knew as a child. We’ve made new lives, but through the things we’ve carried with us, we remain connected to the past.
A gentleman with a lovely Southern drawl (Having grown up in the South I have a natural attraction to that kind of voice) called me to tell me about his treasure.
Slim Dossey, a man who is well known in the area because of his long career as a country and Western entertainer described a quilt that was stitched for him by his grandmother in Kentucky, and then followed up with a visit to show me the quilt.
I’m not familiar with quilting patterns, so I don’t know the name of the pattern on his quilt, but with the soft colors of the fabrics used in the quilt, it’s quite lovely.
I appreciated getting the opportunity to see the quilt and hear the story behind it, but I particularly liked listening to Dossey talk about how much he enjoys being able to remember his grandmother – a woman who was obviously very special to him – when he looks at it.
