Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Heloise: I am a faithful reader and love your column in the daily Spokesman-Review in Spokane. However, I have to take exception to your column about adding people to wedding pictures, etc.

As a genealogist and family historian, I feel very strongly that producing images that are not correct does a real disservice to the generations to come. In the future, no one will be able to prove anything if he or she can’t trust the pictures that are produced today. I’m sure your suggestion was made with the best of intentions, but I hope you’ll reconsider. – Doris Woodward, Spokane

Doris, I agree with you. The letter you are referring to was from a reader who suggested first holding an object in all of the photos that symbolizes the person who could not be at the event (in this case, a soldier who was deployed) and then adding the person via computer. A special notation can be made on the backs of all the photos. Heloise
