Reds 7, Giants 3: At Cincinnati, Brandon Phillips’ grand slam gave Pete Mackanin a victory in his debut as the Reds overcame Barry Bonds’ 751st home run to get the victory.

Pirates 6, Brewers 2: At Pittsburgh, Shane Youman earned his first major league win by limiting division-leading Milwaukee to two runs over six innings, and the Brewers’ sloppy defense committed a season-high four errors during the Pirates’ victory.

Astros 5, Phillies 4 (13): At Houston, Hunter Pence hit a solo homer off Jose Mesa on the first pitch of the 13th inning to lead the Astros past Philadelphia.

Dodgers 7, Braves 6: At Los Angeles, Wilson Betemit was 3 for 4 with a homer and four RBIs against his former team, Matt Kemp singled home the go-ahead run and the Dodgers beat Atlanta.

Diamondbacks 7, Cardinals 1: At St. Louis, stand-in starter Yusmeiro Petit pitched into the sixth in place of injured Randy Johnson and Arizona backed him with three home runs in a victory over the Cardinals.
