BEND, Ore. – Drew George’s grand slam highlighted an eight-run third inning Wednesday as the Bend Elks defeated the Spokane RiverHawks 12-2 in West Coast Collegiate Baseball League play at Vince Genna Stadium.

Bend leads the series 2-0 heading into tonight’s finale.

The Elks improved to 9-8 in the West Division. Spokane (7-10) fell six games behind first-place Moses Lake in the East.

Vaughn Prow added a two-run double during Bend’s third-inning outburst, which was aided by three Spokane errors. Five of the eight runs off Cory Powell (0-3) were unearned.

Brian Yardley’s homer to lead off the third gave the RiverHawks a 1-0 lead. Yardley finished 3 for 5.

Jeff Reekers (3-1) earned the win, allowing six hits and one earned run in six innings.

Spokane’s Phil Boscarino had two hits, including a leadoff double in the eighth. He scored on Tyson Van Winkle’s sacrifice fly.
