Arts group to support gardens

The Corbin Arts Center Association has agreed to become a volunteer support organization for the Moore-Turner Heritage Gardens, which are under reconstruction this year adjacent to the Corbin Arts Center in Pioneer Park at Seventh Avenue and Stevens Street.

The association will provide volunteer docents for garden tours and will establish a maintenance fund for continued care of the historic gardens expected to open in mid-August. The association will operate dually as the Friends of the Moore-Turner Heritage Gardens, said Lynn Mandyke, director of the center and project manager on the garden reconstruction.

An anonymous donor recently gave $40,000 to start the maintenance fund, she said.

. The gardens once graced an 1889 mansion occupied by Moore and Turner families but fell into disrepair after the mansion was torn down in 1940. Association memberships are $35 each. To join, call 625-6677.
