In brief: Hill leaves Orlando to join Phoenix

The Spokesman-Review

Grant Hill is leaving the Orlando Magic after seven injury-plagued years to join a perennial contender in the Phoenix Suns, his agent said Thursday.

The 34-year-old forward agreed to a two-year deal worth about $1.8 million for the first year, with a second-year player option for about $2 million, agent Lon Babby said.

Hill was considering retirement or returning to Orlando. His seven-year, $93 million contract finished this season, and the Magic have used it as a flashpoint for rebuilding.

“Daequan Cook, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound guard who left Ohio State after one season, agreed on a contract with the Miami Heat and will earn more than $2 million over the next two years, and would be in line to make around $5 million if options are picked up for what would be his third and fourth seasons in the league.

“USC’s Nick Young and Ukrainian Oleksiy Pecherov signed contracts with Washington.

Young signed a two-year deal that will guarantee him nearly $3 million, and Pecherov, the 18th overall pick in 2006, signed a two-year deal that ensures him nearly $2.7 million.
