PAINTED HILLS

Development planned

A 48-lot housing development is planned for the 12 acres southeast of Painted Hills Golf Course.

The development, which skirts a seasonal wetland, is being proposed by Terry Frost. The land at 4611 S. Madison Road is owned by Gregory and Dorothy Peters.

The project application filed with the Spokane County Building and Planning Department indicates that 23 of the lots could be used for duplexes. Although near the Chester Creek drainage, the proposed building site is not within the flood plain, according to county planners.

Written public comment about the project is being accepted by Spokane County. Anyone interested in commenting can contact County Planner Corey Smith at 477-7234.

SPOKANE VALLEY

Musicians needed for band

Valleyfest is forming an all-city band for its 2007 parade and desperately needs musicians.

Director Peggy Doering said the parade has gained momentum in recent years by becoming an evening event and attracting community floats from around the region, but could still use a little music.

Former members of marching bands at area high schools, no matter how rusty, would be perfect performers, Doering said. She estimates the group’s repertoire wouldn’t have to be long by the time the parade rolled around Sept. 21. The parade is roughly a mile.

“I think we could have an all-Valley alumni band,” Doering said. “All they need to learn is one song or two.”

The parade band is being built from scratch. A band director also is needed. For more information, contact Valleyfest at 922-3299
