Bad behavior rears ugly head

The Spokesman-Review

Teenage girls sing and dance while they trade baskets in their pregame warm-up. They giggle and blush as they shake hands during the coin toss, and play begins. Soon, an angry mother tries to intimidate a young scorekeeper into changing the score. Play stops as older boys nearly brawl on the adjacent court. A 50-year-old man heckles a 14-year-old girl who is standing at the foul line. After the game, he picks a fight with the court monitor and is threatened with arrest as the young girls look on in shame. We must ask, who at Spokane’s Hoopfest are the coaches and who are the coached?
