Busch takes win in Busch

Jim Utter The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A season of frustration finally turned for Kyle Busch.

Busch ended a more than year-long victory drought in the NASCAR Busch Series, holding off Kevin Harvick in a two-lap overtime to win a rain-delayed Winn-Dixie 250 on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.

After the race, however, NASCAR determined the rate on the right- and left-front springs of Busch’s No. 5 Chevrolet did not meet the minimum of 3,000 pounds. The car is being sent to NASCAR’s research and development center in Concord for evaluation. Any penalties would be announced this week.

The win is Busch’s first in the series since March 25, 2006, at Bristol, Tenn., and eighth of his career. Busch led 47 laps Feb. 17 at Daytona before a fuel pump ended his day.

“We should have won this thing in February. But it all starts here, I guess,” Busch said in Victory Lane.

“These guys never give up. This was a brand new race car. I never give up driving the thing.”

Busch and his team have been among the most competitive in the series this season.

Before the Winn-Dixie, he led 536 laps this year in 10 starts, second to Carl Edwards (648 laps), who has competed in all 19 races.
