Local soccer teams fare well in tourneys
Five select soccer teams from Spokane won division championships at the National Cup VI Region G Tournament held June 30-July 3 in Boise.
The Spokane Shadow U-15, U-16 and U-17 girls teams, the Spokane Shadow U-15 boys team and the River City U-17 boys all went 4-0 and earned invitations to the U.S. Club Soccer National Cup VI Finals to be held later this month in North Carolina.
Spokane Shadow U-15 girls team roster: Anna Aho, Mikayla Anderson, Lindzee Baker, Katie Baran, Josie Greenwood, Lauren Hamilton, Hayley Hemingway, Rachel Jones, Katie Kerr, Chelsea Kerley, Farin Nikdel, Behka Nemec, Annie Pokorny, Asia Porter, Kasey Rubosky, Breanne Taylor and Sarah Wood.
Spokane Shadow U-16 girls team roster: Bev Amstadter, Tanya Baker, Alexa Banaugh, Karina Carpenter, Mary Condon, Nicole Fox, Dee Dee Garbe, Melissa George, Lexi Greenwood, Ellie LaRocca, Jackie McCormack, Morghan Poirier, McKenzie Schnell and Kellie Zakrzewski.

River City U-17 boys team roster: Casey Ames, Dillon Braich, Stephen Craig, Alec Cutter, Renton Day, Ryan Ditzler, Nick Hamer, Ian Hartfield, Brandon Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Teale Johnson, Andrew Keenan, Jake Krueger, Andrew Mastronardi, James Matern, Nate McCloskey, Wyatt Orme, Nick Reilly and Mitch Weller.
The River City team will play an exhibition on July 14 at Gonzaga Prep against a team made up of local athletes who have moved on to the collegiate and professional ranks. Game time is 6:30 p.m. and a $5 donation is suggested with proceeds going to help fund the team’s trip to the national tournament in Greeensboro, N.C., July 21-24.
Softball
The Spokane Crash U-14 girls softball team went 6-1 at the ASA National Qualifying Tournament June 16-17 in Aurora, Ore. and earned a berth to the ASA ‘B’ Western National Championships, held July 31-Aug. 5 in Stockton, Calif.

Baseball
University’s Paul Hyndman threw a no-hitter in the Titans’ 3-1 win over Shadle Park in an American Legion Fourth of July Tournament game on July 5.
Hyndman walked two batters and allowed a run on a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning.
Clay target shooting
Local shooters out of Landt Farms Sporting Clays in Nine Mile Falls fared well at the Washington State Sporting Clays Championships held June 28-July 1 in Lyle, Wash.
Chris Yarboro took first place in the B Class and Dean Flager was the E Class champion in the Main Event. JR Snodgrass took second in the D Class.
In the Combined Event, Yarboro and Flager once again took first place in their classes while Snodgrass was third. In the E Class, Viktor Henkel took second.
