Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Heloise: I do not put my knit tops in the dryer; I let them dry on a clothesline in my laundry room. I don’t like to use wire hangers because they leave the shape of the hangers on the shoulders. So, I punch a small hole in the middle on the bottom of a small plastic bag (use the sealed side of the bag, and use a bag without writing on it). I put a padded hanger inside the bag and pull the handle through the small hole. Then there are no hanger marks. – Joyce Dodds, Baton Rouge, La.

Dear Heloise: Here’s how I store greens like lettuce and spinach in the crisper. I wash and spin them dry. Then I place them in cotton bags I’ve made from dish towels. Finally, I put the individual bags together in a plastic bag and place it in the crisper. It’s surprising how long they keep. – Rosalie Valvo, Morro Bay, Calif.
