Area Roundup: Spiders fall late

Ciarian O’Brien broke a 2-all tie with a goal in the 86th minute, giving Tacoma a 3-2 win over Spokane in a Premier Development League game Thursday at Spokane Falls Community College.

Jake Moug scored both of the goals for Spokane, which has been eliminated from postseason competition.

The Spiders (6-8), who held a 2-1 lead at the half, outshot Tacoma 15-7.

Basketball

Former University High standout Angie Bjorklund made a crucial basket with 40 seconds left in the USA Women’s U19 World Championship team’s 64-62 win over Australia in the first of three exhibition games in Santa Cruz de La Palma, Canary Islands.

With the U.S. squad down 62-60, Bjorklund, who scored six points, made a basket to tie it at 62 before Jantel Lavender won it with a put-back with 0.6 seconds left.
