WNBA: Sun hand Liberty fifth consecutive setback

Evanthia Maltsi scored eight of her 12 points in the final two minutes to help the Connecticut Sun rally for a 79-75 win over the New York Liberty on Thursday night.

Lindsay Whalen led the Sun with 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Janel McCarville had 24 points for New York, which has lost five straight.

Monarchs 60, Fever 50: At Sacramento, Calif., Rebekkah Brunson scored 17 points and the Monarchs beat Indiana to gain ground on San Antonio in the Western Conference.

Kristin Haynie added 10 points for Sacramento, which moved within 1 1/2 games of the first-place Silver Stars.

Sky 83, Shock 73: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Candice Dupree had 24 points and 12 rebounds, Stacy Dales added 16 and Chicago beat Detroit to end the Shock’s seven-game winning streak.
