The Washington men’s rowing team gathered three gold medals in one of the most rewarding days in Husky crew history Saturday at the men’s Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Washington won its 12th varsity 8 national championship, finishing in 5 minutes, 33.16 seconds, nearly a second ahead of second-place finishers Stanford and Harvard.

The second varsity and open 4 boats also won gold for UW as the Huskies won the overall championship.

The three event titles were the most for the Huskies since 1997 when they claimed top IRA honors in the three eight-oared events.

Washington’s top crew completed a perfect season, their first undefeated campaign since 1997. The Huskies were the regatta’s top seed and the nation’s top-ranked team all season.

Gonzaga’s varsity 4+ boat finished fourth in 6:25.059. The Bulldogs finished in the top five at the national championships for the second straight year, having finished fourth in 2006.
