Wednesday’s AL results
Twins 8, Angels 5: At Anaheim, Calif., Nick Punto, Michael Cuddyer and Jason Bartlett homered and Kevin Slowey lasted long enough to get his first major league victory as Minnesota snapped a four-game losing streak and ended Los Angeles’ five-game winning streak. Twins second baseman Luis Castillo committed his first error since May 29, 2006 – also at Angel Stadium.
Yankees 5, White Sox 1: At Chicago, Chien-Ming Wang tossed a complete-game five-hitter, Alex Rodriguez singled in a pair of runs and Bobby Abreu hit a solo home run to lead New York over the White Sox. It was New York’s first nine-inning complete game since Wang accomplished the feat July 28 against Tampa Bay.
Athletics 3, Red Sox 2: At Oakland, Calif., Joe Kennedy shut down Boston for seven innings, Bobby Crosby drove in two runs and the Athletics handed the Red Sox their season-high fourth straight loss.
Royals 4, Indians 3: At Cleveland, newly promoted Joey Gathright had two hits, a stolen base and a run scored to help Brian Bannister win his second straight start and give Kansas City a victory over the Indians.
Devil Rays 6, Blue Jays 2: At Toronto, Carl Crawford drove in four runs and Tampa Bay’s bullpen bounced back with a scoreless effort, leading the Devil Rays over the Blue Jays. A night after four Tampa Bay relievers gave up six runs in the ninth inning in a 12-11 defeat, they got the job done in ending Toronto’s three-game winning streak.
Tigers 10, Rangers 0: At Arlington, Texas, Gary Sheffield homered twice and drove in five runs, leading Justin Verlander and Detroit to a romp over Texas.
